This itinerary is designed for travelers staying in Labuan Bajo guesthouses and doing daily tours, returning to town each evening.
The speedboat allows you to cover more ground per day than a Phinisi, reaching multiple sites across a wide area of the national park. While you miss the immersive overnight boat experience, you gain the freedom of Labuan Bajo's restaurants and nightlife in the evenings, and the flexibility to rest, charge devices, and manage your comfort independently.
Day 1: Rinca Island and Kelor Snorkeling
Day 1 focuses on the Rinca Island Komodo dragon trek — closer to Labuan Bajo than Komodo Island and equally impressive for dragon encounters. The boat departs at 8:00 AM and reaches Loh Buaya ranger station on Rinca Island in approximately 1.5 hours. A 1.5-hour ranger-guided trek through the savanna and forest habitat gives you close encounters with wild Komodo dragons in their natural environment.
After Rinca, the speedboat stops at Kelor Island for snorkeling over healthy coral gardens and lunch on the beach beneath the island's dramatic rocky peak. Return to Labuan Bajo by late afternoon for dinner in town. Cost: approximately USD 60-90 per person on a group tour.
Day 2: Padar Island, Pink Beach, and Siaba Besar
Day 2 is the most photographically rewarding, beginning with an early departure (7:00 AM) to reach Padar Island before the crowds. The 30-minute hike to the summit viewpoint delivers one of the most iconic panoramic views in Indonesia — three bays in different colors stretching to the horizon, with the Flores Sea beyond. Allow 90 minutes at Padar including the climb.
From Padar, the speedboat continues to Pink Beach for snorkeling — the reef immediately offshore from the distinctive pink sand is one of the most accessible and visually stunning in the park. Afternoon at Siaba Besar for virtually guaranteed turtle encounters. Return to Labuan Bajo by 5:00 PM.
Day 3: Komodo Island Dragons and Manta Point
Day 3 tackles the two crown jewels — Komodo Island itself and Manta Point. Depart at 7:00 AM for the 2-hour crossing to Komodo Island. A guided trek at Loh Liang ranger station offers dragon encounters in a different habitat to Rinca — the larger Komodo Island supports more dragons and offers longer trek options (short, medium, and long trails are available).
After Komodo, proceed to Manta Point for a snorkeling session with the park's most famous residents — the giant oceanic manta rays. Encounters are consistently reliable throughout the year, with multiple rays typically visible on each visit. Return to Labuan Bajo by early evening, in time for a celebration dinner at one of the town's best seafood restaurants before departure the following morning.
