Three days aboard a traditional Phinisi is the sweet spot for experiencing Komodo National Park — long enough to cover all the major highlights, take in multiple diving and snorkeling spots, and truly settle into the rhythm of life on the water, yet compact enough to fit into a busy travel schedule. This guide outlines the best 3-day itineraries for a Phinisi charter, covering the classic southern route, the northern adventure route, and a diving-focused variation.
Classic Southern Route (Most Popular)
Day 1: Depart Labuan Bajo in the late afternoon and sail to the first anchorage near Kelor Island for a sunset snorkeling session. Overnight anchor near Rinca Island. Day 2: Early morning Komodo dragon trek on Rinca Island, followed by snorkeling at Manta Point, an afternoon at Pink Beach, and an evening hike to Padar Island's viewpoint for sunset. Overnight anchor near Padar Island. Day 3: Sunrise at Padar Island viewpoint (optional second hike), snorkeling stop at Siaba Besar for sea turtles, and return to Labuan Bajo by mid-afternoon.
This route covers the national park's greatest hits in a logical, efficient sequence and is the most commonly chosen itinerary for first-time Komodo visitors. It balances wildlife encounters, water activities, hiking, and photography opportunities perfectly.
Northern Adventure Route
Day 1: Depart Labuan Bajo and sail north, stopping at Batu Bolong dive site — one of the most spectacular dive spots in the park. Continue to Gili Lawa Darat for a sunset hike. Overnight anchor in Gili Lawa Darat bay. Day 2: Morning snorkeling or diving near Crystal Rock and Castle Rock in the northern strait. Sail south to Komodo Island for a Komodo dragon trek. Overnight anchor near Komodo Island. Day 3: Morning at Pink Beach on Komodo Island, then snorkeling at Siaba Besar, returning to Labuan Bajo in the afternoon.
Diving-Focused 3-Day Itinerary
For certified divers, a diving-focused itinerary includes up to 3 dives per day at Komodo's premier sites: Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, Manta Point, Siaba Besar, and Shotgun. The itinerary is designed around optimal dive times (current and tide conditions) and incorporates island visits and snorkeling between dive sessions. VMI Vinca Voyages can arrange a dedicated dive guide for the duration of the charter, with all equipment available for rental.
